Mission and Values
First Unitarian Church of Worcester
Adopted 1/00

We come together as a community of people to deepen our spiritual lives and to live in right relationships with our fellow human beings and with all creation. We are committed to moving closer to truth, to reality, to God. We covenant to unite in the love of truth, and in the spirit of Jesus, for the worship of God and the service of all.

Our parish's mission is supported by enduring values which include:

  • Our church has no creeds or doctrines. We seek to preserve the freedom of each of us to determine for ourselves what we believe and how we should live. We are open to the wisdom of world religions. We welcome and honor diversity of belief, culture, lifestyle, and political view as a source of strength.
  • We are committed to nurturing the spiritual lives of our children. Our children are rich sources of life and inspiration. In our intergenerational community we promote the learning and growth of our members of all ages.
  • We value the Unitarian tradition that we have inherited from those who came before us in this parish. We seek to preserve and enrich this tradition for all those who follow us. We acknowledge and honor the Jewish and Christian traditions as the origins of our Unitarian Universalist heritage. We value our connections with other communities of faith in Worcester and around the country.
  • We worship together in the sacred space of our sanctuary through the spoken word and music. We choose to live in community and discover the spiritual in the ordinary. We are called to be present to one another in suffering, to risk being uncomfortable, and to celebrate the holy in each other and in the world around us.
