FELLOWSHIP
SUPPERS
Zen
meditation prior; Monday
night Program after
First Unitarian Fellowship Suppers are held each Monday night at
6:30 during the regular church year (September to June) in the kitchen
and dining areas. In order to make this a communal effort, we try to
have someone different host the dinner each week.

Hosting
a dinner does not have to be an elaborate task. We try to follow certain
guidelines but there is also room for flexibility. You can order out
from a restaurant of your choice and order dishes that you think would
be enjoyed by the group. We find that having different people host the
dinner allows for some nice variety in the food that is provided. These
are some basic guidelines to keep in mind:
- Not
all food has to be vegetarian, but some vegetarian dishes and better
yet, egg-free vegetarian food should be provided for those who dont
eat meat and/or eggs.
- It is
a good idea to provide a salad with most meals (except for Chinese
or Indian dinners). Homemade salads are encouraged because they are
much more economical than ordering out.
- We
generally plan on feeding 15-20 people but there may be more when
a popular program is planned (i.e., Advent or Lenten Series). When
ordering, keep in mind that most restaurants serve larger portions
than actually needed so you can order for less people and have plenty
of food.
- The
expense of food will vary depending on the fare. We try to budget
each meal to be around $100 but some meals are more expensive than
others. The more expensive dinners are off-set with pizza or homemade
meals on other nights to balance the costs. We expect to fully reimburse
you from the collection but if you want to be given money in advance,
please see Tom Schade.
- Helena
Sarty has graciously volunteered to provide desserts on Monday evenings
when she is available to attend. If Helena cannot join us, please
make arrangement for a small dessert item.
- It
is not necessary to provide beverages for the dinners, these are provided
by the church.
- Most
food can be left in the kitchen well before dinner with directions
to the set-up volunteers (for those who might want to attend meditation
at 5:30).
- Volunteers
are always welcome to help set up before dinner and clean up after
dessert.
We
try to patronize local vendors when possible. Below is a list of restaurants
