Zen Meditation meets at First Unitarian Mondays

Worcester Magazine Article 11/22/2001

What is Zen Meditation?
Sometimes it can be difficult to express exactly what Zen meditation is. Perhaps it is more useful to describe what it is not.

It is not something that requires a special invitation – it is open to everyone.

It does not require you to subscribe to any particular religious beliefs – it is more about awareness and experience than any particular doctrine.

It does not require being in a ‘trance’ – it is simply an environment where you can practice finding stillness in our busy world. Zen meditation provides a way to wake up to the world as it actually is, and a path to discover who you truly are.

The Zen Group meets every Monday night at 5:30 in the chapel. We sit quietly for 25 minutes followed by a walking meditation and then sit for another 20 minutes while listening to a talk by David Rynick or Melissa Blacker, who guide the group. We end with a few minutes devoted to questions and discussion.

If you have any questions about the Zen Group or meditation in general, please feel free to contact David or Melissa at
508-792-5189.

We hope you will join us!
